Thai herb seeds for home-grown fresh seasoning
Thai herbs bring vibrant flavours for your cooking straight from your garden, balcony or windowsill. This seed kit contains six selected varieties for Thai-inspired dishes: fragrant basil, hot chilli, citrus-flavoured lemongrass, fresh coriander, aromatic mint – and water spinach, a typical Asian leaf vegetable.
This collection combines fresh herbs and spice plants, chilli and leafy greens in a miniature flavour garden for wok dishes, curries, soups, salads, dips and teas. Many of the varieties included love warm conditions and will grow happily in pots on balconies and patios or on windowsills. During the warm months they can also be moved to a sheltered bed or border in your garden – depending on the variety.
The kit contains these six varieties
-
Thai basil (Ocimum basilicum) – a spicy-sweet basil with a delicate aniseed note that works especially well with curries, soups, wok dishes and fresh herb dishes.
-
Thai chilli 'Prik Kee Noo' (Capsicum frutescens) – a small, hot chilli for a spicy hit in sauces, curries, soups and spicy dishes.
-
East Indian lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) – an aromatic sweet grass with a fresh citrus note for soups, teas, curries and wok dishes.
-
Leaf coriander 'Marino' (Coriandrum sativum) – a classic, distinctively flavoured herb for salads, soups, curries and fresh garnishes.
-
Spearmint (Mentha viridis) – a fresh, aromatic mint for salads, dips, drinks, herb teas and Asian-inspired dishes.
-
Water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) – a popular Asian leafy green with tender shoots and leaves, much loved for quick wok dishes.
Fresh seasoning for woks, curries and soups
Many dishes in Thai cuisine play on contrasts of heat, freshness, citrus fragrance and green herbs – a diverse flavour world that’s captured in this kit. Thai basil brings a warm, sweetly aromatic note, lemongrass adds the fresh citrus flavour, coriander and mint add green freshness, Thai chilli turns up the heat and water spinach brings tender shoots and leaves.
This kit is perfect for anyone who loves cooking with fresh ingredients and wants fresh Asian flavours – not their dried or pre-packaged equivalents. These plants can be harvested individually and combined as you wish in different dishes: for aromatic soups, quick wok dishes, curries, herb sauces, summer rolls, salads, dips and homemade spice pastes.
Individually packed herbs, chilli and leafy greens
This kit is not a ready-made herb seed mixture. Each variety is packaged individually and can be sown according to its specific growing needs. This is especially relevant for Thai herbs because the plants have different germination temperatures, location preferences and growing needs.
Warmth-loving varieties like Thai basil, chilli, lemongrass and water spinach will benefit from being started indoors and growing in a warm location. Coriander doesn’t like too much heat and often grows best in a bright but not over-warm spot. Mint grows well in pots and should be carefully monitored in gardens as it can spread vigorously.
Beautifully packaged as a gift for herb lovers and keen cooks
The seed comes packed in a high-quality gift box designed in the style of vintage botanical illustrations. Individual seed packets make it easy to plan and create your garden project. It’s perfect for anyone who loves cooking Thai and Asian dishes with fresh, aromatic ingredients, and who will enjoy growing their own personal herb supply from seed.
Sowing and growing
Depending on the variety, these plants can be started indoors in spring or direct sown outdoors. Many Thai herbs and spice plants like warm, bright locations, free-draining nutrient-rich soil and regular but not excessive watering. Growing them in pots on a balcony or patio often makes sense as they will be in warm, sheltered conditions – and within easy reach of the kitchen.
Several of these varieties are frost-sensitive so should not be planted outdoors until the danger of frosts has passed – or they can be cultivated as pot plants. A QR Code on the pack takes you to a detailed downloadable sowing guide, available in five languages, with instructions for sowing, growing and harvesting the varieties included.
